I finally had the chance to visit the "New Mecca" for the Tribal Pura show on Saturday evening. The new venue is in the old warehouse district of Lexington KY. Not far from the Main Street entertainment complex (which beats Cincinnati's Main Street to hell and back, BTW.) I walked into this New Mecca and was immediately transported to the Chelsea warehouse district of NYC. This studio is HUGE. And has such potential as an art gallery/ entertainment complex. Judging from the itinerary for the next couple of months there, I would say that is just where Teresa Tomb is taking her new baby. The fall schedule incorporates experimental theatre as well as various dance events. I have to admit.... I love taking in the flavors of successful bellydance hubs. They each have their own personality. Kira's, for instance, is a Suburban/ Cosmopolitan venue. Upscale and Beautiful! Gaiananda's is a Quaint Urban Center. Cozy and welcoming. But, Sri Tarasita's is, well... just what a Mecca should be! BIG City Nouveau in a small southern town. Awesome! Amma PS: This is the only photo I could find that shows the scope of the new Mecca.
